Regardless as to who wins our ALDS, Boston's gonna be tough. Also, I saw this photoshop while reading the comments section of the SB Nation Tigers fansite and lol'd.

I angrily grind my teeth when Freese hit the home run.
Damn it! I wanted Pittsburgh to go to the WS. Now it's between St. Louis and LA--neither of which I wanted in. Looks like I gotta go with the Dodgers, if only because it's becoming cliche seeing Louis in the WS.

They get a lot of hate mostly because they're a good team. Before you call me out on claiming it's all butthurt though, I mean that they're hated a lot because they do well enough to go to the championship series almost every year. It's similar to back in the 50's when the New York teams started getting a lot of hate because the WS titles went to a team from that state almost every year. It got old for non-NY fans.
Same thing with the Cardinals. People are just getting tired of seeing them every year.
Sadly for a lot of those people, the rookies they picked up seem to be just as good as the veterans. Expect to see them at-or-near the top for a few more years.

As a Rangers fan, I'm pissed off the most when it comes to the Cardinals. They were greedy by not letting the Rangers win their 1st World Series. Now look at the list of recent WS Champions β Giants, Cardinals, Giants. I swear if it's Cardinals again, I'm going to weep for this generation of baseball.
chowzburgerz said:

I remember watching that game, seeing them get to within one strike of winning it all, and then the Cards rallying to win it. I remember thanking God I wasn't a Rangers fan as my jimmies would have imploded into a black hole of pure hate and bitterness.
Okay, Tigers. Let's repeat last year's ALDS Game Five. Ugh, I hate winner-take-all games. They stress me out way more than they should.

Yeah, Tigers! Verlander pitched better than last year's game five, although Beniot decided to partially pull a Valverde there at the end. You just can't make it easy, can you?
It's a shame we have to always go against the A's. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing them in the WS, but they always seem to have to cross paths with us to do it. Just like last year, I' hope their fortunes will go differently next year.
The Tigers need to do better, though. Their hitting was abysmal (reminds me of last year's ALDS between the Yanks and Orioles, and we all know what happened to that series' winner) and it's not going to cut it against Boston. Jackson needs to stop trying to outdo the A's in strikeouts. Hunter needs to start up. Fielder needs to start using all that mass he has to start hitting. At least Mr Steroids Peralta, Martinez, and whatever bloop single combination of Kelly and Infante are going.
Celebratory gif to celebrate three straight ALCS's (I guess we're Not So Different from the Cards after all). I still think it's goofy as hell, but whatever.

Oh so close. Just two outs away from a combined no-hitter.
Benoit, man. I want to like you, I really do. You're not Jose "blow the lead in the ninth" Valverde (that even the Yank fans probably hate since it directly resulted in Jeter cracking his ankle in half), or Todd "I'm a masochist for watching the ninth" Jones, but you still just can't get through a ninth smoothly, can you? Even worse, you blew a no-hitter which would have made ESPN scowl at having to devote time to a non-East Coast team.
Still, it's a great win when your main complaint is that you let the best team in the AL and World Series favorites get a hit. Peralta must have been taking baths in HGH during his suspension, since he seems to be the only one hitting. Speaking of, Cabby's groin has an out for why he's not playing well. Martinez is actually hitting too. Hunter might be out of his slump. I don't really expect much from the bottom rungs (Kelly, Iglecias, Santiago, Infante). Jackson is ready to take the "guy who swings at every single pitch" nickname away from Granderson. Fielder. Stop imagining how many cheeseburgers you're going to buy with your 214 million dollars and start hitting the ball and getting on base. We got lucky Boston decided to get possessed by the A's. I don't expect that luck to continue.
Celebratory pic which would make me very nervous if I were a Boston fan.
I hate Benoit so muchβ¦
I blame you, Dombrowski. You could have prevented all this. You had an entire offseason to get us an actual closer, but nope. This offseason, can we please get a real closer? Someone who won't implode when the playoffs roll around.
It wouldn't be an ALCS if the Tigers didn't blow a four run lead. I guess this means one of the Red Sox is going to break an ankle.

That sucks. Really, really, sucks. But I'm kind of glad we lost a game. Granted, I would have preferred it not be in such a soul-crushing way. It seems like every time we sweep the ALCS, we get our ass kicked in the World Series, so hopefully a little more competition's a good thing.
And once again, the Tigers bullpen snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.

Well, Tigers, ya dun goofed. When you had to pick up Cabrera's slack, you couldn't. When you're bullpen had to carry you, it gave up two Grand Slams. When the offense was needed most, it was shut out. Even if we would have won the series, I doubt we would have won it all with the way we were playing.
Unfortunately, I have no team left to root for. With the #1 NL team facing the #1 AL team--this World Series is looking pretty bland. I'm afraid this is where I get off Mr. Selig's Wild Ride. Until next year when the whole thing starts up again.
Maybe Dombrowski can keep Hunter and Scherzer and get an actual closer in the offseason prior to Mr. Selig's Wild Ride becoming Mr. Dombrowski's Wild Ride at the end of next year.

So the World Series begins in just two days. Who are you guys going for and why?
Jim Leyland has retired as Tigers Manager.
I must say, as much as I disliked certain moves (Bullpen!) that he's made over the years, it's still extremely sad to see him go. He led the Tigers out of the basement of the AL Central and made me a fan of baseball. Without him, it's doubtful the Tigers would be as good of a team as they are, no matter how much pizza money Illich dumped into them. It's sad to see him go. Hopefully, our next manager won't pull a Valentine. Here's to you, Leyland.

Excuse the pony, butβ¦
A World Series game called by obstruction?
Has.. has that happened before? I mean, I'm happy the Cardinals won, but that is so not how I expected that game to finish..
What a controversial end. I must say when I first say the play, I thought the Sox had been robbed, but after seeing the MLB Rulebook:
OBSTRUCTION is the act of a fielder who, while not in possession of the ball and not in the act of fielding the ball, impedes the progress of any runner.
Rule 2.00 (Obstruction) Comment: If a fielder is about to receive a thrown ball and if the ball is in flight directly toward and near enough to the fielder so he must occupy his position to receive the ball he may be considered Βin the act of fielding a ball.Β It is entirely up to the judgment of the umpire as to whether a fielder is in the act of fielding a ball. After a fielder has made an attempt to field a ball and missed, he can no longer be in the Βact of fieldingΒ the ball. For example: If an infielder dives at a ground ball and the ball passes him and he continues to lie on the ground and delays the progress of the runner, he very likely has obstructed the runner.
The ump made the right call, even if he still cheated Galarraga (a baseball fan never forgets a blown call that cost a perfect game).
As for the butthurt Sox fans. Remember: this is the second time your catcher has blown a World Series game by throwing to third. At this rate, if the Cards win, Saltalamacchia's going to get the MVP award.

There's no way in hell that the Cardinals can win both games 6 and 7 in Fenway. This won't be as magical as their 2011 World Series comeback. I think Boston ends it tonight.

I have to agree with this. Boston depends, and bases their entire line-up, on the Designated Hitter (Ortiz). The Cardinals will have one for tonight (and tomorrow if necessary), but their line-up is based around the standard hitter-by-hitter National League style.
It's hard for a team that works for their bases to go up against one that relies on one guy just beating the shit out of the ball every time he comes up. Throw in the fact that Boston always seems to want to end with Koji Uehara, and you have a recipe that spells very few hits for St. Louis tonight β and likely quite a few for Boston.
Wacha is the starting pitcher for the Cardinals though. There is some hope there, at least.
