The difference in approach to the CG models is this
Sonic tried to rebuild the character to be more realistic.
Pokemon just slapped an HD texture on the model
End results: Pokemon look realistic and still look like Pokemon, while Sonic doesn't look like Sonic and runs right in to the uncanny valley.
