Evocation – Rock and Roll: timeless, action oriented, maybe a little bit of default-ism
Conjuration – Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Hair Metal: intense, skillful, varied, and capable of filling in for rock a lot of the time
Necromancy – Thrash Metal, Black Metal, Death Metal: Like the last group, but EDGIER
Illusion – Pop: all about flash and getting the audience to fill in your blanks, you constantly need new ones, very rarely has the kind of impact of the other kinds but in those rare instances can pull off just about anything
Divination – Classical: tough to implement well and lacks the inherent punch of other types, but makes a perfect backup when doing something that isn't magic/music
Enchantment – Trance, Dubstep: Maybe they want you to relax. Maybe they want you to dance. Maybe they want to annoy the shit out of you. Either way, if somebody's playing and you're in complete control of your faculties, they did it wrong.
Abjuration – Rap: more synergistic with a solo act, getting shot as a performer constitutes a victory so long as you don't die, makes you think you're invincible
Transmutation – whatever you listened to as a teenager: most of these could easily go into some other category, with the exception of the fact that this is what made you into who you are.

Disclaimer: No hate to any genre of music or magic, I list positives and negatives for completeness, also I know that's not a great one for Transmutation, feel free to fix it for me.

Allow me to add a few, would you?
Voodoo – Swing: A classic that defines a large part of the culture of New Orleans, it was originally panned by older audiences due to it's non-conventional way of doing things.
Dark arts – Gothic music: Once again panned by old people, but this time out of genuine fear. Mostly misunderstood, this form of magic/music (along with it's listeners/casters) is often hated and confused for…
Blood Magic – Emo: Usually a wrist cutting affair (ba dum tish), this form of magic/music is even MORE misunderstood, though it's also much more more "edgy".
White Magic – Christian Music: Followers of the Bible, users of this magic/music are arguably even MORE edgy than the previous 2, though much more respected by elders.
