The other day I got curios and thought of the letter/sound correlation in spanish compared to english. For each regional spanish, there are about 5 or 6 letters with more than one sound (C,R,G…). English has like 10 different pronunciations for 'ough' alone.

If it weren't for the fact that they repeat themselves often, I don't think you could write a name in english without having to spell it.

Sorry, I'm Polish living in Poland, and I don't know anyone who ever had to spell his last name to anyone. It's just English that has retarded corelation between spelling and pronouncing.
