I don't get why everyone thinks the protagonists are ten.
They travel across the country on foot, explore extremely hazardous areas, tame and raise 6 or more dangerous animals with elemental powers, and battle professional criminals.
Hell, Gold and Lyra successfully impersonated criminals, and Wes WAS a criminal.
I can't do any of that, and I'm 18.
