Incidentally, I really think there should be a new clause in the Fair Use law that protects non-profit fan works. For instance, people have tried multiple times to make remakes of Chrono Trigger, and Squenix has hit them all with cease and desists. If they're creating a fan work with no assets directly used from the original game, and they're not trying to profit off of it in any way, I really think that they should be legally protected from C&D orders.
