So you guys have seen the recent hacks on the Twitter accounts of Burger King and Jeep, yeah? It led Twitter to officially call for stronger passwords via a blog post late yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday, Gizmodo announced that the perpetrator of these hacks is a man named Tony Cunha, known online as "iThug." He is allegedly responsible for the Paris Hilton phone hack from 2005 (source 2) and was known for hacking MySpace profiles. He's also a Boston-area DJ.

On the 18th, prolific tweeter @lilinternet (who is known for coining the term Seapunk) claimed iThug had gotten the BK twitter account.

Gizmodo recieved a tip linking to Cunha's personal facebook, where he bragged about shouting out to a Twitter friend via the BK account. His facebook has since been deleted.

The Daily Dot also has a roundup of this information about iThug. What else can we find?

More on the Paris Hilton hack, all of the info (including her nudes) was originally posted on General Mayhem --I've checked GenMay and nothing comes up for the post (it was most likely removed, as other phone numbers were in there too) or for the username "ithug" Their archives don't start until 2008 either :/

Also, this took place on Feb 19/20 2005, nearly eight years ago to the day.

From a quick Google search, it seems like the Defonic Crew (a.k.a Defonic Team Screen Name Club) had earned its share of notoriety during its active days. In addition to the 2005 Paris Hilton sidekick hack, Cameron "cam0" LaCroix was also found guilty of hacking LexisNexis that same year, and another member John Kenneth Schiefer (a.k.a "acid" and "acidstorm") was tried in 2007 for infecting more than a quarter million computers with malicious software and spyware.

Does anyone have a good idea of how infamous the Defonic Crew were in its days? Given that there's enough history of exploits, this entry could be expanded to cover the whole group (a la Weev & Goatse Security / Topiary & Lulzsec)

Now I don't like to challenge things, but Gizmodo had tracked this iThug guy to a facebook that had his real name as "Tony Cunha"… doesn't make sense that his name would be something else?

I think there is some sort of discrepancy here with the facts, nobody had paid attention to the fact that @YourAnonNews @AnonymousIRC @AnonOps all claimed that the hacker was part of Anonymous and were inside #OpMadCow when it happend. The tsc shoutout was most likely a way to blame somebody else because in the press releases there is no Tony involved with that group.

@Jeep's twitter also made a tweet referencing "DFCTSC", how would you misspell your own group's name but spell #LulzSec and Anonymous correctly? This may be something to deter everyone from the truth…

Burger King's press release did say that they were not going to bother with investigation because the account was retreived in less then 2 hours. Can you state your facts mywholelyfe before trying to say Sam from Gizmodo is posting false information? I don't see that happening… This kid might have simply put, just took credit because someone shouted out that name as well.
