We have seen the phenomenon of Foodporn . This is one example of the usage of the word “porn” as a suffix, to mean high quality images of a specific subject or theme. Examples include SpacePorn, AbandonedPorn, MachinePorn, EarthPorn etc. So perhaps an entry of this is needed. What do you think?

That would be a very interesting article. Difficult to research, possibly.

I'd say it deserves an h2 under Internet Pornography, actually. I think it's different than, say, -fag as a suffix. It's not so much of a slang term, like -fag, as it is a suffix used to apply meaning similar to that of traditional pornography.

I'd say we already have an article for it.

R34 and -porn are actually very different. R34 implies sexually explicit images depicting non-explicit characters and objects, and -porn generally implies non-explicit images presented in a manner similar to that of internet pornography..

In other words, with R34 you take something safe and make it explicit, and with -porn you take something safe and present it in a manner as if it were explicit.

Meh. So -porn just implies fancy photos that are eyecandy? Suddenly every photographer out there on Instagram is now a photographer of some type of porn? Really, most of those Reddit photos are just good pictures. That's it. Nothing more. They don't imply anything sexual unless you have some fetish. Are we really going to classify the original -porn, FootPorn, and other fetishes on this site? Suddenly me liking math problems and coding are a type of porn?

I think FoodPorn is about as far as it should go. I really cant justify this site classifying every sub-reddit out there as a sub-culture or meme. I mean we could take it as far as FootPorn if we tried.

I'd say leave it as a SFW derivative of R34 and leave it at that.

The "porn" suffix is used as a suffix to mean beautifully manipulated images. For example SpacePorn are high quality images of planets, nebulae, stars etc.

I disagree. The Internet Pornography article is literally about sexual and x-rated content found on the internet and stuff surrounding that.

The -porn suffix is used to describe photos and images showing beautiful or breath taking objects. Which can vary from simple food, to contructions and scenery, to even galaxies. It is not a term to combine with content you jack off to, unlike Internet Pornography.

Footporn is a sexual fetish that refers to intercourse through the feet. Foodporn refers to high quality images of food and such eyecandy.

"porn (n.) – the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement"

You can't use that word without implying a fetish or sexual excitement.

It's irony, jokingly implying that someone who looks at food porn has a sexual fetish related to delicious vittles, when they actually don't.

Earthporn appears to be the largest, with a bit over 200,000 subscribers, and was founded February 14, 2011, so we can get ready to celebrate. Spaceporn is a tad older, founded January 9, 2011, but only has just over 100,000 subscribers. Then Food porn is even older, founded November 24, 2009, with about 130,000 subscribers. That's the oldest of the ones I looked through. I'd do a bit more research, but my Internet is slowly fading away here.

Seems I can.

That didn't prove anything. The conjunction of the words makes it a derivational suffix, a suffix that alters the meaning of the previous conjoined word.

e.g.
"The weather forecaster said it would be a clear day today, but I think it's more like clearish!"
the suffix -ish modifies the root-word clear, changing its meaning to "clear, but not very clear".

i.e.
In "FoodPorn Photography" the sufix -Porn would modify "Food Photography" from meaning "pictures of food" to meaning "pictures of food that induce an emotional response, similar to that of a sexual appeal."

First use of the term "food porn" can actually be traced to Marilyn Minter (Artist) back in 1989 when she purchased 30 second TV commercials to show her artwork for her gallery show. "Food porn commercials" aired during David Letterman, Arsenio Hall, and a Nightline interview with Ted Koppel and Henry Kissinger. (They were cheaper than art magazine ads.) The groundbreaking and unusual artwork/commercial featured quick clips of the artist at work in her studio without directly promoting anything. It caused so much confusion that LA TV stations added a disclaimer.
