I've seen these vibrating gifs everywhere. What are they called? Is there an there an entry for them yet?

I was going to say we had a thread about this already, but then I realized it was actually buried in Pony General here. It's certainly a thing. It seems to have gained more popularity in the MLP subculture, but there are Homestuck panels that include them, as well as several that I'm reasonably sure predate both of them.

Homestuck panels include them all the time, right? That's where I see most of them, anyway.

The origin is currently a doubt, and if I have to place a guess it's either the dolphin in OP's post or the turtle I'll post at the bottom (possibly also Homestuck as the origin), but Homestuck constantly featuring them in updates and the rise amongst MLP ones a few weeks ago are signs of notable spread.

Wouldn't this fit in with with all the other kinds of modified .gifs? There are hundreds of ways to shake, rainbow, invert the colour or whatever an image. Things like the rainbow Bunchie are just small edits to images/gifs. Or we can just ignore everything else and focus on the shaky ones. That's okay too.

Right, but if there's a pattern in the creation of these gifs or the reason behind them, we need to document it.

Also I am worst forum mod if I found out about this thread through the front page.
