Unfortunately, the bill we're discussing here is about censorship. The way it sounds like it works in my head is that they block all access to a site. Technically that's not cutting access to the internet, just certain sites that potentially infringe copyrights.
It's a step in the right direction, but it's not quite there yet.

While possible, I think it's unlikely.
We (being Americans, I don't know where you're from.) hardly vote in the current democracy.
If we did vote, and had good information about issues (unfortunately somewhat lacking) it might work, but in our current setting…we aren't quite ready, I don't think.

Although Anonymous would be far-left, I'm not 100% sure I could trust them, but I'm not sure I can trust anyone. We need the kind of left democracy that is fair for all people.

Either way, it would not be perfect. There a some people, like yourself, who do not have easy access to ballots, and cannot afford cars, and there are those who don't have computers. Heck, there are still people who can't even read and don't have TVs. If we combined different mediums of voting, it might be fair to everyone, but even still there are still problems, such as the vote being skewed by the electoral college, in which a significant majority claims the electoral vote over the minority, and in turn causes a full 100 votes of "republican" for example, whereas if it was truly democratic there could've been a result of 80-20, and that difference may affect the outcome of the entire election. And of course there is the problem of corruption. For all of these reasons, many people have lost faith in the broken system. Of course the last unspoken check in the governmental system was always an armed revolt of the people, which is not likely, but still there as an option if all hope is lost. Internet now, freedom the next, let's hope it doesn't come to a civil war.

But back to the thread at hand, I believe that this is all bullshit. The internet honestly has no physical incarnation, therefore making it seemingly non-existent. This reminds me of the South Park "Imaginationland" story arc where the Govt. tries to nuke our collective imaginations in order to kill a few terrorists. The internet exists because of us, and therefore by the Freedom of Speech, the government is restricted from interfering with it.

If you guys really want to do something, try logic before hacking. Contact your representatives- state & federal- with a strong argument against this bill. If you don't want sarah palin to be president, contact your state legislature (whom decides ELECTORAL vote) with a strongly worded argument of why.

Come on, you guys should have learned this in high school.

Normally I support my government on everything! Yes I love government and all that. But as of recently the government is deteriorating. And now I learn they are trying to censor the Internet!
That's where I jump off the bandwagon.

This is against our Constitutional Rights, yes, protecting against copyright infringement it good, but we don't yet have the technology to properly do it. I have become very enraged by our government, and we should get rid of our current government and replace it with a simpler one, one that the average American could understand.

Democracy has always been the best solution to most of the problems of the politicians. Maybe it's about time to try to find a solution for the problems of the people.

Maybe the Average American should learn to vote, its not like knowledge is hard to obtain nowadays.

I'm surprised this bill has even seen the light of day, let alone get this far. Nonetheless, there is no way this bill will get passed. Someone will eventually challenge it and every court will constantly throw it out on the grounds that the bill is unconstitutional. The same has been done with the infamous California law that regulates video games; court after court threw it out until it hit the supreme court. Sure, the obvious exception to this rule is the PATRIOT Act, though that has more to do with the hysteria at the time as well as the general stupidity of the masses and government leaders. Bottom line, this bill will never make it into office. Too many people are opposed to such a thing and too many active participants exist in our country where it at least should be enough for someone to challenge the bill, and most likely win. Besides, even if we lose, we still have proxies.

But doing raids on government websites WILL NOT help, because that just makes people say "Well, these websites are causing people to do illegal activities and sabotage the government! They should be blocked for the safety of teh country!!11one"
Just be rational and make a CONSTRUCTIVE email to your senator or representative about why the bill shouldn't pass and then they might listen.
Getting all whiny about it in an email will help nobody.

Ok, I read the first half of this bill before I decided tl;dr. However, unless I misunderstood things, I don't see where it says that domains will not be given due process… It says that, "On application of the Attorney General… …the court may issue a temporary restraining order, a preliminary injunction, or an injuction…" It seems like the bill basically says that the Attorney General can submit paperwork to a panel of judges, and the judges can decide what sort of action to take. While injunctions can be harsh, there's plenty of legal precedence on the matter, it's nothing new, and certainly something that a court already has the right to do.

What I find disturbing is the fact that this bill allows for the government to take legal action against non-domestic domains, that is to say domains that are not based in the United States, as well as their non-domestic owners, as well as the fact that it requires advertisers to not fund the websites that the applications are against.

That's the problem; they don't listen. No longer is there any concern for the people. This is why we must pursue these alternative methods of protest.
