in portugal if the parents (or a court) give a consent you can legally marriage at the age of 16 (also that's the age of consent for homosexual sexual acts (the age of consent for heterosexual acts is 14 years, yes 14 years) and that is (or was) the age you could legally start to drink nonspiritual alcoholic drinks (yet it's somehow "damaging for students [of the same age]" to drink coffee in the scholl grounds))
(i hope portugal isn't crossing the international-common-sense line at somepoint)
also you can be employed and responsable for your crimes at age 16 here; i guess the lusitan law agrees with ariel when one's maturity comes at the age of 16.
