Lets not forget the fact that if the US went into invaded japan, a few hundred thousand US soldiers would die. And cosidering japans "Win or die" policy for soldiers and civilians, it would have turned into an acidental genocide for japan.

So a few hundred thousand japanese dying is was most likely worth it to prevent a few million japanese and a few hundred thousand americans from dying
