I'd say the first Tumblr OP is right about "nerd" at least (I still see "loser" used in PG rated shows as a lesser go-to insult). It's probably thanks to the fact that certain things that were once declared "nerdy" activities in the past, such as constantly using computers for various purposes or playing video games all day, are now common among those that wouldn't be labeled "nerdy" in the traditional sense. Also works of fiction within the sci-fi and fantasy genres have had lots of mainstream success in the past two decades (or even earlier).
