I disagree. Missing the point entirely of a book ("Be nice to everyone" "LET'S KILL PEOPLE NOT LIKE US") and misinterpreting it doesn't necessarily mean you're not worshipping the religion, just being terrible at it. It's an interpretation of the book that is most likely wrong, but they're still listening to the book. They just are bad listeners and/or listen to it second-hand.
As for atheism, it's just not believing in stuff. The reasons one came to be that way are irrelevant. There isn't even a 'point'. If there IS a point, the people who are missing it are the antitheist neckbeards that act like it's a religion and they need to crusade. But even then they're still technically an atheist.
Although, while we're on the topic, Messianic Jews might not be considered true Jews, since they're still considering Christ as the savior and all that.
