Really, I think it's pretty fantastic in the comics. Even in this arc. Hell, I think Celestia and Luna are always my favorite parts in the style. I just love how they have their manes, still holding that wondrous color, but also not looking like it's a giant gas-pocket with a life of its own. Honestly, I wouldn't mind it at all if the show actually changed the looks of their manes more to match.

Though, I suppose it is just salt in the wounds that such bad writing had to drag it down.

I'm more half and half on Andy Price's style.

Sometimes it does look really nice, but other times it looks a little too goofy, and the ponies come out looking a bit like lemmings (the ones from the video games of the same name, not the actual animal).

But yeah, the writing isn't exactly praiseworthy, to say the least.
