Sharks don't normally attack people. Humans rarely swim close enough to sharks for them to be a threat, and even then, the shark will probably pass them up – maybe they'll take an experimental bite, then withdraw when they realize you're all skin and bone compared to a nice sea lion.

Humans, meanwhile, do eat sharks. The sharkfin soup industry in China is growing, due to China's expanding middle class. Hence, shark hunting in China is definitely a thing, and it kills millions every year, even before you factor in things like pollution.

And while most people never come into contact with a wild shark capable of hurting them, they come into contact with toilets, air fresheners, and buckets pretty much every day. Sure, the odds of you getting hurt on the toilet are slim, but when you compare the odds of pretty much everyone in the civilized world several times per day, you get some fucked-up results.
