Well I'm not sure about pain in particular, but the idea is pretty much correct. There is sensory information that our brains have filtered out over time. We have nerves in our eyes that we have stopped seeing after it's constant exposure along with a blind-spot where those nerves come together, theres also a case of our heart and muscles making a noise as well while our brain has stopped noticing it. It's just a part of how our brains condense information for better and more efficient use of a conscience.
