Sentience and Sapience are two different things. Sentience is defined as having consciousness, awareness of your environment, and the ability to interpret and learn signals and communications. Sapience is the ability to think abstractly, wondering about your world, what your purpose in it, why things are the way they are. Basically humans, talking magical ponies, and Zoidberg are all sapient, where as real life ponies and crabs are sentient, but only humans are sapient. Meanwhile sapience makes it xenophilia, and just sentience makes it bestiality.
