mobile apps were the reason and a big hurdle in the eyes of the industry. it was a matter of trying make a consistent experience that works for both device types without favoring either and not having to catch up both simultaniously . This has mostly been driven by google and apple and anyone who followed that wanted their apps to match their websites, which we tend to forget used to be very separate before both of those companies invested in bridging technologies.
but you did not hear that from me, an industry outsider. idk how these structures work, so i could be very wrong
