    Where Do Scientists and Professionals Stand on the Patterson-Gimlin Film? Youtube: Truth is Scarier than Fiction For decades the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin footage, allegedly showing a bigfoot dubbed "Patty", has caused debate over its authenticity. This graphic contains arguments from professionals on both sides. Pro Grover Krantz- Anthropologist Was skeptical at first, but believed that the odd gait and what he perceived as flexing leg muscles showed the film to be genuine. Dale Sheets and Universal technicians, worked in the special effects industry They believed Patty could be. recreated, however doing so would be almost impossible. Others thought it would be extremely expensive. Ken Peterson and Disney animators, worked in the special effects industry When shown the film, Ken said that Disney technicians would not be able to recreate it. Some animators couldn't believe it was shot in the wild and not a studio. Donald W. Grieve- Biomechanics expert Believed that Patty's movements seemed natural and would be difficult to fake. Said the shoulders were too wide and that a human couldn't recreate the gait. Jeff Meldrum- Anthropologist Believed that Patty was too advanced for the costumes at the time. Also believed that the track Patty left behind was genuine due to a midtarsal break found in it. Skeptical Bernard Heuvelmans- Founder of cryptozoology, zoologist Believed Patty's hair to be too uniform, thought the chest was too hairy, and thought that Patty was too calm. Still believed in Bigfoot. John Napier- Primatologist, paleoanthropologist Believed Patty's footprints didn't match up with it's height, thought that the footprint's "hourglass shape" was suspicious. Esteban Sarmiento- Primatologist, biologist Believed Patty's foot was too light and didn't match the dark palms of the hands. Also thought the body proportions matched a human rather than an ape. David Daegling, Daniel Schmitt- Anthropologists While they believe the costume to be high quality, they contend that the poor image quality points to a hoax. Also believe that the gait. could be recreated by humans. Stan Winston- Special effects supervisor, makeup artist Believed that Patty was a poor quality suit. Said that it could be recreated in a day for between a few hundred to a thousand dollars. Peter Byrne- Big game hunter, outdoorsman, wildlife photographer Thought the location of the film made it genuine, as it was near camping roads where people could have seen the hoaxer. Also thought that Patterson wasn't capable of pulling a hoax off. Richard Freeman- Cryptozoologist, zookeeper Believed that Patty being a female adds to the authenticity, as it would be harder to hoax. Also thinks that anatomical details like the brow ridge and body proportions don't match a human. Bill Munns- Special effects and makeup artist, cameraman, film editor Believed that the skull and muscles of Patty showed a genuine bigfoot and were too complex to be fake. Also did a computer analysis of the film which he believed showed that Patty was real. Darren Naish- Paleontologist, zoologist Thought that Patterson's background in craftsmanship and promoting bigfoot was suspicious. Also noted shared details between Patterson's film and the 1955 William Roe encounter that suggest Patterson based the film off of it. Chris Murphy and Cliff Crook- former bigfoot researchers After a 1999 analysis of the film, they claimed that a buckle could be seen in the film that showed that Patty was a man in a suit.
