I remember reading up on this cannon a few years ago out of interest. Since it's also kind of a multi shot cannon, it makes me think of the Puckle gun and sometime I wonder if either cannon would have ever been practical if they saw improvements in cost and design.

Funny thing is they allready had chain-shot: it was fired from regular cannons in the hopes (accuracy being what it is in a black powder cannon) it would cut down ship masts.

They didnt use it against infantry because the same general effect could be achieved mre cheaply by filling the cannon with musket balls in an oversized buck-shot.
