I'd argue he's way more brave than Ridley as well, or any other Nintendo villain for that matter. Ridley will challenge the galactic government with a cry of 'yeah I can take 'em' because he's a narcissist like that. But Dedede repeatedly challenges ELDER GODS even though he gets chumped more than half the time just because somebody has to.

Ridley does it because he expects to succeed, Dedede does it because he knows he should.
