Look, if I want to watch something that makes me miserable I'll watch politics.

Counterpoint: If I ask Marvel fans what their favorite MCU movie moments are, a lot of them are going to say things like "The End of Infinity War" or "That fight with Captain America and Bucky vs Iron man at the end of Iron Man 3." It seems to me that people ARE willing to become emotionally invested in and feel negative emotions on behalf of these characters and stories. The films just don't offer that many opportunities.
