Some notes:
- I agree that some of these claims were stuff that people actually said, but not that many people, and you may personally never saw people saying that, but even if you make a filter and remove the things you think should not be in this list, it's still a very big list.
- Many people are claiming this is a bunch of strawmen, but I actually made a lot of research in older posts to find people saying these claims, even if not many people said them.
- These debunked claims may be actually truths, the characters just joined anyway despite their problems, others were straight up misinformation, and others were stuff no one said officially.
- The claims that Ridley was too big weren't just something fans made up, they were based on something Sakurai actually said, others claim that people misunderstood Sakurai's words about Ridley, but I'm still adding this example anyway.
- The claims that we were not going to have a character that was already part of another character moveset, and we were not going to have a Microsoft character, were stuff I believed.
- Some people may say that the "main character first" rule is still not broken because Kazuya was the main hero in Tekken 1, but I think that after Chrom, Min Min, Pyra, Mythra and Kazuya, we have enough examples, and there are people who claim Pikachu also counts, we don't need a pure example on the same level as Tails joining without Sonic.
- People only doubted that Simon was going to join before Snake was added, after he came back, people were expecting him.
- I decided to not add examples from Melee and Brawl, since researching posts from the 2000s would be too tiresome.
- The problem with arguments of "This rule was broken already" is that the Smash community often has to learn their lesson twice, there are examples here were people insisted that past examples didn't count and we needed another one, or another more specific one.
