HOW THE DEATH OF FRANZ FERDINAND LED TO THE CREATION OF ANIME Franz Ferdinand Archduke of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire Was assassinated on 28 June 1914 His death is believed to be the main event that cause World War I Anime Japanese term for animation A form of art, known as Japanese cartoons The earliest anime commercials date as far as 1917 What´s the causality? o Political tensions filled Europe in the early 1910's o The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand led Austria-Hungary to issue an ultimatum to Serbia Alliances were created, and the war started o The Allies won the war in 1918 and imposed the Treaty of Versailles on Germany How is Japan involved? o Due to the political tensions of the Treaty of Versailles, Adolf Hitler stars World War II in 1945 o Germany creates the Axis, which Japan joins O The Axis is defeated in 1945, and Japan comes under US occupation o Due to this, many comic books, cartoons and other forms of American media make their way to Japan The creation of anime o During World War II, Japan was nuked by the US twice: Once in Hiroshima, and once in Nagasaki o Post WWII Japan was in a big economic crisis, so in an attempt to calm the youth and appeal to them, writers and cartoonists begin working on their own media, inspired off of US media. The new cartoons are named Anime and the comics are named Manga In conclusion o It's safe to say that, if Franz Ferdinand hadn't been killed in 1914, anime wouldn't exist nowadays, at least as we know it Hope you´ve enjoyed!
