Considering how people reacted to the lack of any adventure mode in Smash 4 and how people are now shifting complaints to a lack of minigames like break the targets for Ultimate (though some are certain they'll be added in a future update, meaning this comment could be pretty outdated in the near future), that sounds about right really. I feel in some cases something that got shat on originally becomes loved later because the people who hated on it at first either changed their minds or simply no longer care enough to say anything so the most noticeable voices are the people who always enjoyed it, though it can work the other way where in some cases people who praised something at first become "drowned out" by the hate later on (I feel like Skyward Sword has become a victim of the latter, I recall when it released in 2011 most people actually liked it and were more keen on defending it, but now in a post-A Link Between Worlds and Breath of the Wild world it seems more likely to see people who deride Skyward Sword for its linearity and debates over if the motion controls were amazing or the worst thing about the game; but then again I've seen a lot of people also really open to an HD remake on Switch so I guess maybe it's more 50/50?).

I distinctly remember people often saying how Subspace was not all that good and could have been much better, specially for the last part which was quite difficult. Come Smash Ultimate and those comments basically vanished in thin air. Watch the same happen for WoL once the next Smash game comes out, whether it has story mode or not.
