Slowly but surely, Sonic Team is beginning to add back old Sonic characters into modern Sonic games! Starting with Shadow is a safe bet because he controls very much like Sonic, but I saw they gave him his own gameplay mechanics in the video they uploaded, which I very much appreciate. Yes Sonic 06 was a disaster partially because of them trying to create 5 billion playable characters, but that doesn't mean that they should never try to add them again in moderation. Hopefully in the future they will eventually get the courage to add back Tails or Knuckles too.
