Did nobody here notice that he actually got some development? He's still an angsty little shit, sure, but he's finally showing signs of improvement! Plus, as bad as he is, Ronaldo is worse by far. Anyway, the fact that Lars was starting to develop should make his potential death actually mean something.
Consider this: what if you knew someone who has always been a complete asshole, but just as they start to realize how shitty they are and begin to show promising signs of being a better person, they get shot to death one night? All that potential for good is now completely gone. They had a chance at redemption, and they even took that chance, but it was stolen from them. It gets even worse when you realize that their last thoughts before death could be about how people may only ever think of them as "some asshole," rather than the good person they were trying to be.
