The description fits Sonic's behavior in the first comics when he became Super, the proto-edgehog (seriously, whenever Sonic was pushed over the edge, metaphorically or literally, he became Super), the only thing common between base and super forms were his massive ego.

Example: Super Sonic is about to let people die in a volcanic eruption and might not wait to kill Tails (now that I think about, makes sense since he could fly away), Tails taunt Super that he's just doing that because he can't stop the eruption, and stops his genocidal mood just to show that yes, he can stop a volcano. He decides to shape it like himself and, in the ensuing egogasm, turns back to normal.
