You're immediately inclined to think highly of him; be it in a good or bad sense After the initial shock, first thought that passes through your head is "F--- ...he's kind of hot" (or at least great looking) All joking aside, even if you're not into male goats, up to this point Toriel was the golden standard of beauty implicitly set by the game. Asriel mirrors her with similar facial features and clothes, yet he is unmistakably male. If you're familiar with the japanese idea of a bishounen male and a mysterious antihero, this is it done tastefully However, those are all just appearances. The real essensce lies in what he is by the end of the game a) Asriel's a child destined for greatness stripped of his future due to no fault of his own b) His acts are most noble, done for the sake of an evil man, merely to show his spirit and his living kin respect that should be show after death c) When things went badly, he took into consideration the ramifications of his acts on both human and monster kind. His world view is holistic and considerate c) Even though they're complete strangers, based upon Frisk's actions, he accepts us unconditionally. Ignoring the mentally retarded monster kid earlier in the game, goatbro's the only monster besides Toriel to do so d) He has made no excuses for his actions. Instead he kneeled down before us and asked for just judgement the the moment his soul was reattached to his body again e) Whitnessing the loss of his own life and soul - a fate worse than death - doesn't finch him. He states that he'd do it again infinite times if it meant the freedom of monster kind and peace with humans This leads us to... a) Subconscious recognition of Asriel as a Jesus-like figure, a young man who gave his life for the sake sake of all existance. And his sacrafice will continue forever and be repeated in infinite worlds, as long as someone needs to be saved. b) At this very peak of narrative, when both of us, player and Asriel, are faced with feelings of deep regret and acceptance of our limits, companionship connects the two of us on a raw, emotional level. Here we see him as an equal to our self insert Frisk, a real warrior. c) The deep feeling of regret and willingness to fight even in the face of impossible, odds is something etched into the very soul of western culture. These ideas resonate with our very essence. At the very top of the narrative mountain, the final moments of the game, through Frisk we share a transcendent experience with Asriel. This ritual turns his character alive as an entity in a way regular characters can't. Basically, in these five minutes we are exposed to a new character that enriches the lore in a novel, yet fulfilling way. In these five minutes Asriel Dreemurr (anagram of Serial Murderer) shows transcendental qualities in the most exhilarating and essential moment of the story. Few lines of dialogue we are given firmly plant him into the story and his very existence gets loaded with high spiritual concepts which linger long after the Pathos sweeps him away Afterwards we're given one last private encounter with goatbro far away from the eyes of anyone in the forsaken ruins. This is used to lament and reflect on the tragedy of fate, just like in thousands of years old greek tragedies and he's also a m------------ shota goatboy AND a bishounen teenager at the same time, depending on what your degenerate tastes like more In a game which lacks the improbable, loaded and ambitious, instead focusing on lowly and safe, Asriel becomes a center piece of the narrative, the transcended and minimalist convergence into one awesome climax.
