Gavin joined them on the causeway, encouraging faltering men to go forward with a calm, "Son, you can do it." while Ridgway started to tie a cable to the truck still blocking the bridge, so it could be pulled aside and allow the Shermans to advance. the paratroops and glidermen pushed the Germans back Moving across the causeway and dislodging the Germans to its west finally allowed forces from Utah Beach to move further into the Cotentin Peninsula.
